Mind the Gap: A discussion series inspired by Malone Mukwende

SNMA members Michael Liptrot & Allison Stephens hosted a discussion series inspired by Malone Mukwende titled ‘Mind the Gap.’

The first part of the series celebrated the 100th birthday of Henrietta Lacks and discussed the historical relationship of race and medicine with guest speaker Dr. Carlton Young (UABSOM Assistant Dean, Medical Student Diversity & Inclusion). Recommended readings included The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (movie available on HBO).

The second part of the series focused on Race in Medical Education with guest speakers Malone Mukwende (St. George’s, University of London School of Medicine, Author of Mind the Gap) and Dr. Tiffany Mayo (UABSOM Associate Professor, Dermatology). Click here to read about Malone.
